Trees are objects of study for people from all walks.  They offer shade to the weary and fruit to the hungry.  Poets ponder them, are inspired them, fill them with metaphors.  Scientists try to understand their gravity defying size or how they lift gallons of water straight up into the sky or how they grow around power lines, chain link fences, and other obstacles.  Mathematicians are inspired by the branches as a form of organization.  But, of course, all of these are different aspects of the same miracle:  The birch.  The maple.  The beech.  The poplar.  The grafted.  The old-growth.  The bonsai.  The tree.

This month's dinner will include performances and presentations by:

+ Shauna Gordon-McKean exploring Lichtenberg figures and ways of modeling tree growth

+ Sam Christy, founder of the League of Urban Canners, sharing their tree database and talking about the many and varied local trees from which the group forages and cans

+ a puppet show by Sara Peattie

+ a discussion of street trees and urban planning by Lisa Peattie

+ a look at the Duffy family tree by Cheryl Duffy Hatch
