Visiting artist Francis Alÿs in conversation with exhibition curator James Oles, senior lecturer in the Art Department at Wellesley College and adjunct curator of Latin American Art at the Davis.

Alÿs uses poetic and allegorical methods to address political and social realities, such as national borders, localism and globalism, areas of conflict and community, and the benefits and detriments of progress. His personal, ambulatory explorations of cities form the basis for his practice, through which he compiles extensive and varied documentation that reflects his ideas and process.

Videos of Alÿs’s works, including “Paradox of Praxis 1,” a performance in which Alÿs pushed a block of ice through the streets of Mexico City until it melted, can be viewed at www.francisalys.com.

Location: COLLINS CINEMA Davis Museum at Wellesley College, 106 Central Street Wellesley, MA
