John Tiffany, 2010–2011 Radcliffe Institute Fellow, Independent Artist (United Kingdom)

John Tiffany has been the associate director at the National Theatre of Scotland since its inception in 2006. It is a groundbreaking model for a national theater company in that it has no building of its own. Instead, it creates and tours work all over Scotland and internationally, often performing in unusual and challenging environments—as with the military drama Black Watch, which Tiffany originally staged in a drill hall in Edinburgh. Tiffany will talk about the complexities involved in establishing a new national theater in a culture where artists and audiences are demanding innovative and interactive relationships with each other. How will theater keep up?

Location: Radcliffe Gymnasium, 10 Garden Street, Radcliffe Yard, 617-495-8600
