Sir Michael Barber, head of McKinsey's Global Education Practice, distinguished visiting fellow at HGSE, and former head of British Prime Minister Blair's Delivery Unit, discusses the December 2010 McKinsey report on the world's most improved school systems and examines how combinations of interventions work at different stages of improvement. Barber will examine the various combinations of interventions that work at each stage of a system’s improvement, showing that while adequacy can be mandated, greatness has to be unleashed. He will also highlight triggers of major education reform efforts and the different approaches to implementation used in a variety cultures and circumstances.
