For the past decade, Kara Oehler and Jesse Shapins have been at the forefront of defining the new fields of public media arts and urban database documentary, engaging the interplay between physical, virtual and social space through a hybrid of interactive design, documentary radio, urban photography, participatory storytelling, architectural theory, and experimental pedagogy. Together, they will present a retroactive manifesto of their collaborative projects.

These works include: Stadtblind (2002), a temporary gallery and urban research studio focused upon challenging the dominant urban imaginaries of Berlin, exhibited at the Deutsches Architektur Zentrum, Van Alen Institue and other museums internationally; Yellow Arrow(2004), a deep map of local experiences combining stickers and mobile phones, adopted in 35 countries and 467 cities, and exhibited as part of MoMA's "Design and the Elastic Mind" amongst many other venues; Mapping Main Street (2009), a collaborative documentary media project produced with the Association of Independents in Radio, the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University and broadcast on NPR's Weekend Edition; and the UnionDocs Collaborative (2009), a new educational program for interdisciplinary documentary arts based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to be featured in MoMA's 2010 "Documentary Fortnight" series.
